Acetic Acid Density G Cm3
Density of a Substance
Experiment Inventory
Materials
10 mL Acetic Acid (Cii Hiv O2)
*Paper Towels
*10 mL Isopropyl Alcohol (Ciii Hseven OH)
*10 mL Fiveegetable Oil
Labware
Pipette
100 mL Graduated Cylinder
Digital Calibration
Note: You must provide the materials listed in *cerise.
EXPERIMENT 1: DENSITY OF A SUBSTANCE
In this experiment, yous will determine the density of several liquids and compare the physical backdrop of those liquids.
PROCEDURE
1. Weigh a clean and dry 100 mL graduated cylinder on the digital scale.
2. Remove the graduated cylinder from the digital scale, and using your pipette, add 10 mL of isopropyl alcohol to the
graduated cylinder. Don't forget to measure from the bottom of the meniscus.
iii. Reweigh the graduated cylinder, at present containing alcohol. Determine and record the mass of the alcohol in Table i on the
Experiment 1 Information Sail, then calculate the density of the alcohol using the equation:
iv. Thoroughly wash, rinse, and dry your graduated cylinder.
5. Counterbalance the clean and dry out 100 mL graduated cylinder on the digital scale.
half dozen. Remove it from the digital scale and add 10 mL of vegetable oil (brand certain to read the volume from the bottom of the
meniscus).
7. Reweigh the graduated cylinder, at present containing oil.
8. Determine and record the mass of oil, then calculate its density. Record this information in Table two on the Data Sheet.
9. Thoroughly wash, rinse, and dry out your graduated cylinder.
10. Weigh the clean, dry 100 mL graduated cylinder.
11. Remove it from the scale, add ten mL of acetic acid, and read the volume (from the bottom of the meniscus).
12. Record the mass of the acetic acid, and so calculate its density in Table 3 on the Data Canvas
13. Utilize the bodily densities of isopropyl alcohol, vegetable oil, and acetic acid given in Tables 1‒3 to summate the percent error
in your measured densities for each of the substances (equation given below the tables).
14. Reply the Post-Lab questions.
